Pego is encouraging residents to support local businesses this summer with two new campaigns that reward shoppers and bring a touch of Hollywood to the town’s streets.
Shopping in Pego
The first campaign, El comerç de Pego és de cine (“Pego’s shopping is like the movies”), celebrates local shops through the world of cinema.
The opening promotion pays tribute to acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. It playfully recreates his film Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, renaming it Shopkeepers on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.
Four local business owners star in the campaign, bringing a humorous twist to the famous film.
Organisers also plan to release more posters and short videos inspired by classic movies over the coming weeks. Participating businesses and social media channels will share the content throughout the summer.
More than 1,200 prizes up for grabs
The popular Rasca i Guanya (“Scratch and Win”) campaign returns on July 23.
Anyone who spends €20 or more at a participating business will receive a scratchcard while stocks last.
Every scratchcard wins a prize.
This year’s gifts suit the summer season and include:
- Portable fans
- Hand fans
- Cooler bags
- Beach buckets
- Foldable beach and pool storage bags
One lucky winner will also receive a hotel weekend break for two.
More events planned this year
The cinema theme will continue at Pego’s Trade Fair, which will now take place on September 27 after bad weather forced organisers to postpone the original event in May.
Councillor for Commerce Raül Tamarit said the campaigns aim to bring more people into the town centre, support local businesses and thank residents who choose to shop locally.
He also confirmed that several more initiatives will follow later this year. They include the Arròs Bomba i Bombó Gastronomy Days in October, the Bonos Consumo shopping voucher scheme in November and the annual Nit en Blanc shopping event in December.
