The University of Alicante has strengthened its international reputation after once again securing strong results in several of the world’s leading university rankings.
The latest tables place the university among the world’s top institutions, with several subjects earning international recognition and reinforcing its growing global profile.
Strong performance in major rankings
The University of Alicante continues to feature in three of higher education’s most respected rankings: QS, Times Higher Education and the Academic Ranking of World Universities, better known as the Shanghai Ranking.
In the latest QS World University Rankings, the university remains in the 851-900 band worldwide. It has now held a place among Spain’s top universities in the rankings for six consecutive years.
Meanwhile, the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject include seven University of Alicante disciplines among the world’s best. Two subjects improved their position, while another two entered the rankings for the first time.
Tourism leads the way
Tourism continues to rank among the university’s strongest-performing subjects and remains one of its internationally recognised programmes.
The rankings also highlight the university’s strengths in Ecology, Nursing, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Public Health and Education, reflecting the breadth of its teaching and research.
Growing international profile
The rankings assess universities on factors such as research quality, academic reputation, teaching performance and international outlook.
University leaders say these results reflect continued investment in research, innovation and international partnerships.
Today, the University of Alicante welcomes around 30,000 students, including thousands from overseas. As a result, it has become one of the province’s leading academic ambassadors, attracting students and researchers from around the world.
