If you are off to a beach on the Costa Blanca and the thought of leaving your furry friend behind fills you with dread, don’t fret here are some dog friendly beaches.

There are plenty of spots where your furry companions are more than welcome have a run and a paddle.

One of the best-known spots is Agua Amarga Beach in Alicante, a 250-metre stretch of sand between the city and Urbanova. Often hailed as one of Spain’s finest dog-friendly beaches, it comes with little touches such as kiosks offering disposable bowls for food and water. There is even a special doggy menu, so your pooch can dine in style. Best of all, the beach welcomes man’s best friend all year round.

Over in Benidorm, Mal Pas Beach is another good option. In between the old town and the newer part of the city, it’s a nice little spot which offers water stations and waste bins.

If you don’t mind swapping soft sand for something a touch more rugged, head to Playa Mar y Montaña in Altea.

A little further south, near Villajoyosa, lies Playa Villera del Xarco. This stony cove has a quieter feel, with the right-hand side set aside for dogs. It is normally less busy than the bigger beaches.

El Campello has two spots worth a visit. Playa Punta del Riu, near the Seco river which has a dog park nearby, but, if seclusion is more your style, take the short scenic stroll to Playa Barranc d’Aigües. It is quiet and peaceful, and a great sand-free walk.
