Alicante’s hotels and tourist accommodation finished August almost full, rounding off a summer in which occupancy beat last year’s figures in each of the three main holiday months.

Occupancy reached 95% during August, a level the local tourism sector considers effectively full. That compares with 92.60% in August 2025.

The figures come from the Asociación Provincial de Hoteles y Alojamientos Turísticos de Alicante (APHA), the provincial association representing hotels and tourist accommodation.

A busy summer from June onwards

The strong August followed increases during both June and July.

Alicante recorded occupancy of 91.61% in June, compared with 86.84% during the same month last year. July then reached 93.62%, up from 89% in 2025.

Playa de San Juan recorded even higher levels earlier in the summer. Accommodation there reached 96.4% occupancy in June and 96% in July. Separate figures for the area in August are not yet available.

August’s 95% figure for Alicante city also came in almost five percentage points above the provincial average among establishments associated with APHA.

Alicante sees fewer quiet periods

Tourism councillor Ana Poquet believes the figures reflect a broader change in Alicante’s visitor season.

While summer remains particularly important for hotels and other tourism businesses, the city is also recording high occupancy during other parts of the year. This makes the traditional distinction between high, mid and low seasons less clear.

The council has been working to attract different types of visitors throughout the year rather than concentrating solely on the summer holiday market.

For businesses across Alicante, that can mean a steadier flow of customers for restaurants, shops and other services outside July and August.

It is not just about filling rooms

The council is also looking beyond occupancy and paying attention to how much income accommodation businesses generate.

Profitability has continued to improve alongside occupancy, an important factor when assessing how tourism feeds into the wider local economy.

Hotels and tourist accommodation bring visitors into the city, but their spending also reaches bars, restaurants, shops and leisure businesses.

This summer’s figures certainly show plenty of demand. Occupancy remained above 91% throughout June, July and August, with every month improving on its 2025 result.

August provided the strongest finish, reaching 95% as the city brought another busy summer to a close.
