A Sunday trip into the countryside comes with plenty of good reasons on 20 September, when Monóvar takes its annual local produce fair to the small village of Chinorlet.
The Fourth Local Produce Fair runs from 10:00 to 18:00, bringing together local wine, food, crafts, tastings, live music and activities for children.
This is the fourth edition of the event, but the first time Chinorlet has provided the setting. Spend the day discovering what producers, wineries and craftspeople from Monóvar and the surrounding area have to offer.
Local wine and food to try
Six Monóvar wineries will take part in this year’s market, alongside local
producers and organisations including the Alicante Wine Route.
Wine and food tastings will form part of the programme.
The event also welcomes the Valencian Community Cultivated Biodiversity Fair this year. It focuses on sustainable production, traditional crop varieties and the conservation of agricultural heritage.
Vintage finds, crafts and music
Food and wine are only part of the day.
La Paca will bring its vintage market to Chinorlet, with stalls selling crafts and unusual items. Music will run alongside the market, while workshops and other activities will give younger visitors something to do too.
The fair has grown over the years as a showcase for local producers, artisans and wineries. This year, Monóvar hopes its move to Chinorlet will encourage visitors to explore another part of the municipality at the same time.
A chance to discover Chinorlet
Tourist Info Monóvar will organise guided visits during the day, giving visitors an opportunity to learn more about Chinorlet and its surroundings.
The village sits in the rural landscape outside Monóvar. The fair will use that setting to connect local produce with the countryside it comes from.
Tourism councillor María Amparo Maestre said taking the event to one of Monóvar’s outlying villages would also help showcase the municipality’s rural communities.
Rather than simply setting up a market, the council wants visitors to make a day of it, combining tastings and shopping with music, activities and a look around Chinorlet.
With the event running for eight hours, there should be enough time to browse the stalls, try a few local products and find out a little more about this inland corner of the Costa Blanca.
