If there’s one dish that’s managed to win the hearts, and stomachs, of Spain, it’s the humble burger.

Well, perhaps not so humble these days.

According to Just Eat’s latest report, residents of Spain simply cannot get enough of it. In fact, the beef burger has been the most ordered dish on the platform for three years running, and shows no signs of stepping down from its tasty throne.

A recent survey by IPSOS Digital for Just Eat confirms the obsession: half of Spaniards now tuck into a burger at least once a week. That’s 33% settling for just one, and 17% cheerfully admitting they go back for seconds (or thirds) before the week is out.

Not all burgers are created equal

But not all burgers are created equal. While 64% of people still swear by beef, chicken has a respectable following at 30%. And it’s not just about the patty. Cheese tops the list of add‑ons (80% won’t go without it), followed by onion, bacon, and a brave 35% who insist on pickles despite the ongoing love‑them‑or‑hate‑them debate. More than half of Spaniards, meanwhile, believe the sauce is what truly makes the right burger.

And then there’s the smash burger. Pressed down on the grill until its edges crisp into golden perfection, it has become the foodie trend of the year, popping up everywhere from Barcelona to Salamanca. It has particularly conquered the dinner crowd, with American food, led by burgers, making up over 40% of evening delivery orders. Late at night, however, the chicken burger takes centre stage.

The Valencian Community, Andalusia, and Aragon lead the charge in burger orders, though the craze is alive and well across the entire country.

Spain’s love affair with the burger looks set to continue, and frankly, who could argue with that?
