For many, Jijona is the only and true home of Spanish turrón.
Located just 24 kilometres from Alicante, the small inland town has built its reputation around nougat, marzipan and traditional sweets for centuries.
Now visitors can explore that sweet history at Museo del Turrón, one of the Costa Blanca’s most deliciously unusual foodie attractions.
Spain’s most famous Christmas sweet
The museum spreads across three floors, each focusing on a different chapter of the turrón story.
The upper floor introduces the essential ingredients behind traditional turrón production, including almonds, honey, sugar and eggs.
Meanwhile, the middle floor explains how Jijona-style and Alicante-style turrón, along with marzipan, are traditionally made.
Finally, the lower floor explores the commercial side of the industry. Visitors can discover vintage packaging, historic advertising, old market stalls and local stories linked to Jijona’s confectionery heritage.
Factory tours during production season
One of the biggest highlights is the factory visit itself.
During production season, visitors can watch modern turrón manufacturing from elevated walkways overlooking the production lines. The air reportedly smells like toasted almonds.
Guided factory tours normally run on weekday mornings from mid-June until November, although production slows during part of August.
Afterwards, the visit finishes at the Casa 1880 shop, where guests can sample sweets and buy products from the company’s best-known brands.

Low season
From 1 January to 15 June:

- €0.50 reduced entry for pensioners and schoolchildren
High season
From 16 June to 31 December:
- €3 adult entry
- €1 reduced entry
In addition, groups larger than 10 people must book in advance.
The museum usually closes on Sunday afternoons and some public holidays during low season. However, high season opening expands to seven days a week.

- Pets are not allowed inside the museum or factory, except accredited guide dogs.
- The museum closes completely on 25 December and 1 January.
