The Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante, known as MACA, is where the old meets the new.
It is housed in the city’s oldest civil building, a beautiful Baroque structure from the 17th century. Built in 1685 originally as a grain warehouse, the building has been transformed into a space dedicated to modern art.
MACA holds one of Spain’s top collections of 20th-century art. The museum features famous artists such as Picasso, Dalí, Miró, and Chillida. It was Alicante-born artist Eusebio Sempere whose generous donation of artworks in 1977 helped establish the museum and give it life.
The museum’s permanent exhibition changes regularly to protect the artworks, so each visit offers something new to explore. Its three collections include paintings, sculptures, drawings, lithographs, engravings, and serigraphs, showcasing the key artistic movements of the 20th century.
Admission: Entry to MACA is free of charge.
