Visitors and residents travelling into Alicante for the city’s famous Hogueras celebrations will benefit from continuous TRAM services throughout the main festival period.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has confirmed that Alicante’s tram and tram-train network will operate around the clock from 20 to 25 June. As a result, festivalgoers will find it easier to attend events without relying on private vehicles.

More services and increased capacity

To meet the expected surge in demand, FGV has scheduled nearly 3,000 journeys during the festivities. In addition, the operator has added more than 800 extra services specifically for Hogueras.

Overall, the network will provide capacity for more than 840,000 passenger trips.

Compared with a normal week, service levels will increase by around 37%. Consequently, transport officials expect approximately half a million passengers to use the TRAM network during the celebrations.

However, FGV has warned that planned strike action could affect some services. Even so, trains and trams will continue operating under legally established minimum service requirements. During strike periods, operators must maintain 80% of scheduled services.

Extra staff and security measures

Meanwhile, FGV has strengthened staffing levels across the network to cope with increased passenger numbers.

Additional drivers, station staff and ticket inspectors will support operations throughout the festival period. At the same time, cleaning crews and security teams will increase their presence across the system.

Security measures will be particularly visible. While around 50 security officers normally patrol the network, FGV will deploy approximately 155 officers during Hogueras.

Luceros station closures during Mascletàs

As in previous years, authorities will temporarily close Luceros Station during the daily Mascletàs fireworks displays, which take place directly above the station.

Therefore, from 18 to 24 June, the station will remain closed between 13:30 and 14:20 each day for safety reasons.

During those periods, passengers should use nearby Mercado Station, which will continue operating as normal.

Restrictions on bicycles and e-scooters

In addition, FGV has introduced temporary restrictions on bicycles and electric scooters because of the expected overcrowding.

The measure applies to services operating within Zone A, which covers the route between Alicante and El Campello. The restriction will remain in place until normal services resume on 25 June.

Finally, passengers should note that overnight Hogueras services will not stop at Sangueta Station.
