Moraira will step back in time as the town centre hosts its Andalusian Market with the return of the popular Mercat Andalusí.

The event will take place from 19 to 21 June as part of Moraira’s 2026 Moors and Christians celebrations, bringing music, traditional crafts, food and family entertainment to the heart of the town.

A taste of Al-Andalus in Moraira

The market will fill Plaza de la Sort and surrounding streets including Calle Almacenes and Calle del Mar, recreating the atmosphere of medieval Al-Andalus.

Visitors can browse artisan stalls, sample traditional food and drinks, watch craftsmen at work and enjoy a packed programme of live entertainment throughout the weekend.

The market will be open daily from 11:30 to 22:30.

New candlelit concert for 2026

One of this year’s highlights will be a special candlelit concert on Friday evening in Calle del Mar.

A viola de roda (hurdy-gurdy) and percussion performance will feature six pieces of traditional Andalusian music, creating a unique atmosphere among the market stalls.

Throughout the weekend, visitors will also be able to watch demonstrations of pottery, wood carving, Arabic perfumery, leatherwork and clay modelling, while free workshops and family activities will be available for all ages.

Entertainment for the whole family

Children can enjoy traditional wooden games, giant chess, archery, themed mini golf and craft workshops, while adults can take part in Moroccan tea-making sessions and explore historical exhibitions.

The programme also includes stilt walkers, musicians, dancers, snake charmers, fire shows and regular battles between Moorish and Christian knights.

A giant faquir travelling on a magic carpet will make appearances throughout the event, while evening fire displays promise spectacular entertainment after sunset.

Supporting local traditions

Teulada councillor for Culture Verónica Martínez said the market offers residents and visitors the opportunity to discover different cultures.

The captains of the 2027 Moors and Christians festival, the Almogàvers and Almoraima groups, will also be running a bar area beside the castle esplanade.
