If you fancy a stroll, the Music Garden (Jardín de la Música) in the centre of Elda offers a great place to stretch your legs.
At the centre of the garden stands the Casa Grande del Jardín de la Música. It is a striking two-storey house built in 1925 as the home of local shoemaker Antonio Porta Rausa.
During the early days of the Spanish Civil War, the house was attacked and later used as a hospital by the International Red Aid between 1936 and 1937. In the early 1950s, two new buildings were added for his children, including Antonio Porta Vera, who would go on to serve as mayor of Elda from 1959 to 1976.
The council bought the property in 1983 and restored the house between 1985 and 1991, after which it was used as an exhibition space until 2017. It was then restored once again.
The house has a square layout and looks out onto the street on one side and onto the garden on the other. Its elegant setting includes a portico with a staircase and a raised viewing platform.
The original ironwork perimeter wall still encloses the complex, topped with decorative vases. The garden itself is lovely, with tall pine trees, rose-filled flowerbeds, and benches covered in colourful modernist tiles.
Following its most recent update in 2024, the park now includes a children’s play area, a fitness zone for older visitors, an above-ground fountain and, in keeping with its name, piped music that plays throughout the garden. That same year also saw the unveiling of a new sculpture in tribute to the musician Ramón Gorgé.
