Villajoyosa will host the start of stage nine of La Vuelta Ciclista a España 2026 on Sunday 30 August. One of Spain’s biggest cycling events will bring road closures, parking restrictions and traffic changes from Friday onwards.
The peloton will leave the Playa Centro promenade at 12:20 before heading through Villajoyosa and towards Finestrat.
Where will La Vuelta go in Villajoyosa?
The riders will leave Playa Centro via Costera la Mar.
They will then follow Avenida País Valencià, calle Barranquet, Avenida Benidorm and Calle Colón.
From there, the peloton will head towards the roundabout on avenida del Puerto. The riders will continue through the Secanet area before joining the CV-759 towards Finestrat.
Police will introduce temporary traffic restrictions along the route, so drivers should allow extra time on Sunday.
Parking restrictions start on Saturday
Drivers will need to move their cars from spaces along the race route before 16:00 on Saturday 29 August.
The parking restrictions will remain in place until 15:00 on Sunday 30 August.
Drivers may also face temporary closures around Calle Pelayo, the bridge over the Río Amadorio and the Playa Centro promenade.
Restrictions around La Vuelta’s paddock start even earlier.
From 17:00 on Friday 28 August, drivers cannot park or travel through parts of l’Antoneta and calle Méndez Núñez. These restrictions continue until 15:00 on Sunday.
The event will also limit access to the public car park at Playa Centro.
Where can you park during La Vuelta?
Villajoyosa Town Council will provide several alternative parking areas during the race weekend.
Drivers can head to the Mercadillo site or the area opposite the Chocolates Valor factory. Parking will also be available around calles Cervantes and Altea.
The council plans to increase capacity at these locations during the weekend.
Anyone heading into the centre on Sunday morning may find it easier to park in one of these areas and walk.
Where does La Vuelta go next?
After leaving Villajoyosa, the peloton will continue through several Costa Blanca towns and villages.
The route takes the riders through Finestrat, La Nucia, Polop, Callosa d’en Sarrià, Bolulla, Tàrbena, Parcent, Orba, Tormos, Sagra and Pego.
The cyclists will then head into the Vall de Gallinera and continue through places including l’Atzúbia, Benirrama and Benialí.
Anyone planning a Sunday drive through these areas should check local traffic restrictions before leaving home.
