A major new housing development in Orihuela Costa is moving closer to construction as the long-running Las Vistas project enters its final development phase between Punta Prima and Playa Flamenca.
The project has faced years of debate and delays but could eventually add more than 2,000 new homes to one of the last undeveloped coastal areas in Orihuela Costa.
Housing development Orihuela: Final approval
Developers are preparing to start the first residential phase once authorities complete the final approvals.
The first stage will include almost 200 homes.
Much of the infrastructure work is already close to completion. Crews have installed water systems, electricity networks, landscaped areas and new pedestrian links.
New seafront promenade planned
One of the main features of the development is a planned 1.3-kilometre promenade connecting parts of the coastline between Punta Prima and La Zenia.
The project also includes large green zones and public open spaces.
Developers have reportedly planted more than 900 trees across the site, including hundreds of palm trees.
Cala Mosca project faced years of delays
The development sits on the Cala Mosca coastal plot, often described as the last untouched kilometre of coastline in Orihuela Costa.
Earlier versions of the project faced legal disputes, environmental objections and planning delays.
Revised plans later moved forward with stronger sustainability measures and protected natural areas.
Current plans keep the areas closest to the Mediterranean more open and landscaped. Most residential buildings will sit further inland near the N-332.
Property analysts believe demand for the homes could be very strong once sales officially begin.
Many experts expect strong interest from northern European buyers looking for property on the Costa Blanca.
