Spain’s Traffic Department has just launched a new campaign reminding everyone that almost all car related interactions can now be done online.
That means no more early-morning trips to traffic offices, no waiting about, and no aimlessly driving around looking for a parking space.
If you need to pay a speeding fine, renew your driving licence or change car ownership details, easy peasy!
These can all be handled via phone (060), the Government Traffic Office (DGT) online portal (Sede Electrónica), or the mobile app (miDGT).
The only thing that still requires a visit in person is applying for permits for dangerous goods.
DGT Online Traffic Office
Do you really want to get up at the crack of dawn to request a duplicate driving licence? Or would you rather sort it all from the comfort of your sofa?
In 2024 alone, more than 2.4 million procedures were completed entirely online, while around 1.8 million still needed face-to-face appointments.
To make online procedures even easier, the DGT introduced María, an intelligent virtual assistant for the Online Office, in June.
In just two months, she has helped nearly 100,000 people navigate their applications, and users are raving about her.
