Travellers on the Costa Blanca will soon have year-round direct flights between Alicante and Luxembourg after Luxair confirmed it will continue operating the route during the winter season.
The connection only returned earlier this year after being absent for almost a decade. The route relaunched in April 2026 and has now proved successful enough to remain available beyond the summer months.
The move marks the first time Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport will offer direct flights to Luxembourg throughout the winter season.
Luxair expands Alicante service
Luxair has confirmed it will maintain its twice-weekly flights between Alicante and Luxembourg during winter, operating on the same days as its summer schedule.
Flights will continue to run every Wednesday and Saturday.
The airline has already opened bookings for winter travel, with both flight tickets and holiday packages to the Costa Blanca now available for sale.
The decision reflects Luxair’s growing commitment to Spain, which the airline describes as one of its most important markets.
Winter flight schedule
Flight times will differ slightly from the summer timetable.
On Wednesdays, flights will depart Alicante at 09:00 and arrive in Luxembourg at 11:15.
Saturday services will leave Alicante at 20:25 and land in Luxembourg at 22:40.
For passengers travelling in the opposite direction, flights will depart Luxembourg at 06:00 on Wednesdays and 17:30 on Saturdays.
The journey takes approximately two hours.
Growing importance of Spain
Luxair says Spain remains a key part of its network strategy and that the Alicante route forms part of a wider expansion across the Iberian Peninsula.
The Alicante service was one of nine new routes launched by the airline for summer 2026 and will now also feature in its winter programme.
The expansion coincides with the arrival of new aircraft into the Luxair fleet, allowing the carrier to increase capacity and serve more destinations.
Why Luxembourg matters
Although small in size, Luxembourg is one of Europe’s wealthiest countries.
According to European Union figures, the country’s income per person is around 139% higher than the EU average.
Data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) also places Luxembourg among the world’s richest nations, with GDP per capita exceeding $156,000.
For comparison, Switzerland records around $105,000 per person, while Spain stands at approximately $59,000.
More travel options for Costa Blanca residents
The year-round service provides another convenient European connection from Alicante Airport, particularly for business travellers, Luxembourg residents with homes on the Costa Blanca and tourists looking for direct access to the region.
With flights now available in both summer and winter, the route strengthens Alicante’s growing network of international destinations and further boosts links between the Costa Blanca and northern Europe.
