The film industry is once again emerging as a driver of tourism in Alicante.

Ongoing negotiations between the British production company Global Films Media Productions and Ciudad de la Luz suggest plans to base up to six film shoots there throughout 2026 and early 2027.

Talks are well underway, though not yet finalised. Several meetings have already involved service providers to prepare the logistics for the upcoming projects.

Film industry tourism: Alicante boom

One key development is the drafting of a collaboration agreement with the Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Apartments of Alicante (APHA). Under the agreement, APHA will coordinate accommodation for the production teams involved.

The six shoots are expected to generate around 15,000 overnight stays in the city next year, creating an estimated economic impact of nearly €30 million. Global Films has already expressed interest in booking rooms in boutique hotels, large-capacity establishments, and tourist apartments.

Ciudad de la Luz: Building on activity

If the parties finalise the studio agreement soon, the first productions could start filming in the first quarter of 2026. This would build on the activity at Ciudad de la Luz throughout 2025. This is despite challenges such as tariff disputes and the suspension of projects linked to Israeli funding due to geopolitical tensions. Non-disclosure agreements keep much of this year’s work confidential.

In recent meetings, the company shared provisional titles for six planned feature films. These include The Man Who Stole the Sky and The People of the Book. Directors such as Michael Haussman and Catherine Morshead were also name. They also highlighted notable productions in their portfolio, including The Infiltrator (2016), City of Lies (2021), and the more recent Words of War (2025).
