Benidorm will celebrate the second edition of its “Fiesta del Reciclaje” (Recycling Festival) on Saturday 30 May with a morning full of family activities, workshops and environmental awareness events linked to World Recycling Day.
The event will run from 10:00 to 13:00 in Calle Alcalde José Such and is organised by Ayuntamiento de Benidorm together with the local Environment and Street Cleaning departments and Consorci Mare.
Recycling, reuse and sustainability
The Recycling Festival was first launched last year to help residents better understand the work carried out across the city to improve recycling and reduce waste.
Environment councillor Mónica Gómez said the event aims to encourage more recycling while also highlighting the effort involved in waste collection, reuse and environmental protection throughout Benidorm.
Several organisations will take part with information stands, demonstrations and activities, including:
- Veolia
- FCC
- Ecovidrio
- Actúa
- Consorci Mare
- Ecoembes and its “Mirada Circular” project
- Generalitat Valenciana
Workshops, games and family activities
Visitors will discover recycling containers, educational displays and restored household items that have been given a second life instead of ending up as waste.
Meanwhile, the Consorci Mare eco-park vehicle will offer recycling games and activities for children alongside environmental educators.
Free giveaways during the event will include:
- Beach hats
- Fans
- Yo-yos
- Puzzles
- Fridge magnets
- Reusable beach bags
Street Cleaning councillor Luis Navarro said one of the key messages is that many discarded items can still be reused instead of thrown away.
Water-saving and sustainable gardening
In addition, Veolia will organise workshops focused on water reuse and sustainable water management.
At the same time, Actúa will host an activity called “Del residuo al recurso” (“From waste to resource”), centred on sustainable gardening and the reuse of green waste.
Families will also be able to:
- Watch a wood-chipping machine demonstration
- Plant aromatic herbs
- Learn about composting
- Discover recycled plant materials
- Explore the importance of pollinating insects and biodiversity
