Access to Santa Bárbara Castle will be restricted from 4 to 20 May due to ongoing works on a new pedestrian connection.
During these 16 days, private vehicles will not be allowed to drive up to Santa Bárbara Castle. Access will be limited to public transport, specifically taxis and the urban shuttle bus (line CSB).
Passengers using these services will be dropped off at the La Ereta car park, where vehicles will turn around. From there, visitors will need to walk the final stretch to reach the fortress.
The restriction also applies to tourist transport such as tuk-tuks and minibuses.
The works are part of a project to improve the pedestrian route between Parque de la Ereta and the castle entrance. The plan includes resurfacing the main path, adding landscaped areas, installing new seating and improving lighting.
A secondary 115-metre path connecting to one of the Benacantil viewpoints is also being upgraded.
Once completed, the route is expected to be more accessible, including for people with reduced mobility.
Updates on access and transport can be checked through the ‘Alicante se mueve’ app or the Town Hall website.
