A little piece of Elche is heading to the UK this July, as one of Spain’s most unique traditions travels abroad. The city will bring the iconic Misteri d’Elx to London on 17 July.
The performance marks 25 years since UNESCO recognised it as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage.
A special setting in central London
The concert takes place at St Etheldreda’s Roman Catholic Church, a historic church in the city centre, close to Westminster.
Around 40 performers from the Capella and Escolanía will take part. They will perform some of the most recognisable pieces from the Misteri.
What to expect
This is a concert version, not a full staged performance. It lasts about one hour and focuses on the music.
Images from the Festa will accompany the performance. English translations will also help the audience follow the story.
Taking Elche to the world
This event forms part of a wider effort to promote Elche internationally. The production has already travelled to Paris and Rome. Now, it arrives in London.
The programme also includes a tourism presentation. Organisers will showcase the city to travel professionals and media.
