Alicante has launched a handy new travel app called ‘Alicante se mueve’, designed to make getting around the city a lot more straightforward, whether you live here full-time or are just visiting.
If you have ever stood at a bus stop wondering “has it gone already?” or driven in circles looking for parking, this might be exactly what you need.
What does it actually do?
In simple terms, it puts live travel info in your pocket.
You can check exactly when your bus is due, see how busy the roads are, and even find out which car parks have spaces before you leave home.
It works through a map where you can switch different layers on and off depending on what you need.
Once you open the app, you can see things like:
- Real-time traffic conditions
- Road incidents or disruptions
- Available spaces in public car parks
- Live traffic cameras
- Bus stops and arrival times
- Air quality levels
- Events that might affect getting around
It is one of those tools that becomes more useful the more you use it, especially during busy periods or summer when the city fills up.
The app was already available on Android, but it has now launched on iPhone too.
If you do not want to download anything, there is also a web version (www.movilidad.alicante.es) you can use from your phone or laptop.
How it works behind the scenes
The system is powered by a network of more than 300 traffic cameras across the city, with around 60 of them visible to users.
All of this feeds into a central control system that tracks what is happening on the roads in real time. It is also linked with Spain’s traffic authority, so it can pick up issues on main routes and access roads.
On top of that, it connects directly with local bus services and public car parks, which is how it can give such up-to-date information.
Alicante travel app
For day-to-day life, it is all about saving time and avoiding stress.
You can quickly decide whether to take the car, wait for the next bus, or change your route if something is causing delays. For anyone who has experienced Alicante traffic in peak season, that is no small thing.
Bridging the Gap’s takeaway
It is a simple idea done well. Real-time info, easy to use, and genuinely practical.
If you live in Alicante or spend a lot of time here, it is probably worth having on your phone.
