If you enjoy live music or just fancy something a bit different, Elche is hosting its 16th Semana de Bach from 25 April to 2 May.

It is a well-established event in the local calendar, built around the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, but with a clear aim of making it accessible to everyone, not just classical music fans.

Easy to dip into

The concerts are designed to be approachable, with some even explaining how Bach’s music works as you listen. It is a good entry point if you have never really explored classical music before.

At the same time, the quality of the performances remains high, so regular concert-goers will still find plenty to enjoy.

Different venues, different sounds

The concerts take place across several well-known spots in the city, each offering a slightly different setting and atmosphere:

  • Iglesia de San José
  • Centro Cultural Las Clarisas
  • Basílica de Santa María
  • Iglesia de San Juan

The programme itself mixes styles, from guitar recitals to organ music and cantatas, giving a broader feel for Bach’s work.
