If you are around Alicante this weekend, there is something a little different to check out down at the port. The historic sailing ship Pascual Flores is in town and open to visitors until Sunday 26 April.

You will find it moored at Muelle 10, right in front of the Ocean Race Museum.

You can simply step on board and have a look around, or if you fancy something more memorable, you can actually go out to sea on it.

Visiting the ship

The boat is open daily from 10:00 to 20:00, and entry is just €3.

It is a relaxed visit. You can wander the deck, take in the details and get a feel for what life was like on a traditional sailing vessel.

Going out sailing

If you want the full experience, there are coastal trips lasting around three hours.

With today being 24 April, here is what is still available:

  • Today (Friday 24 April): 17:00 to 20:00
  • Saturday 25 April: 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00
  • Sunday 26 April: 11:00 to 14:00

Prices are €45 for adults and €30 for children (5 to 10 years old).

Tickets can be bought directly on the boat or online.

Why this boat is special

This is not just any old ship. The Pascual Flores was built in 1917 in Torrevieja, during a time when the town had a busy sailing trade.

Back then, boats like this were used to transport goods such as salt, fruit and general cargo across the Mediterranean and even down to North and West Africa.

After years of use and several changes of ownership, the vessel ended up in the UK in poor condition. It was eventually bought and restored by the town of Torrevieja in 1999 and brought back to life as a floating museum.

Today, it is one of the best-preserved examples of this type of ship.
