One of the Netherlands’ busiest hubs, Eindhoven Airport, will close completely for several months in 2027. That includes flights to and from Alicante-Elche Airport.
If you regularly fly between the Costa Blanca and the Netherlands, this is one to keep on your radar.
The closure will run from early February until 19 July 2027 while crews upgrade the runway. So, it is not a short disruption. Instead, it covers late winter and stretches into the start of the summer travel season.
For Costa Blanca expats and frequent travellers, the impact is significant. The Netherlands ranks among the top international markets for Alicante, with more than 1.2 million passengers in 2025. In addition, the Alicante to Eindhoven route alone handled over 350,000 passengers last year.
So what happens in the meantime?
Airlines such as Ryanair and Transavia will need to adjust. Flights will not simply disappear, but they may shift to other Dutch airports or follow different schedules.
For passengers, this means a bit more planning. If you usually fly to Eindhoven, you may need to consider alternatives like Amsterdam or nearby regional airports during those months.
The numbers highlight the scale. Around 175,000 passengers typically travel this route between February and mid-July. As a result, many people will need to rethink their usual plans.
Eindhoven Airport closure: Plus side
There is a positive side, though. The work goes beyond surface changes. The airport will improve its runway, upgrade landing systems for low visibility, and update taxiways and facilities. When it reopens in July 2027, it should offer a smoother experience.
In the meantime, if you are booking flights for early 2027, it is worth checking routes carefully and keeping an eye on airline updates.
