If you were hoping for clear skies on the Costa Blanca over the May Bank Holiday, brace yourself. the weather may be a bit of a mixed bag this year.

The latest forecast from Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) points to changeable weather across Alicante province as May begins.

The week starts on a warm note, with temperatures above average for this time of year. There is also some dust in the air drifting in from North Africa. For now, most of the rain should stay further west and inland, so much of the coast looks largely dry at the start.

That said, conditions are not fully settled. Inland areas and northern parts of the province, such as Alcoy and the Marina Alta, could see a few scattered showers early in the week.

Costa Blanca: May Bank Holiday weather

As the days go on, the pattern begins to shift. Colder air moving in at higher levels will make the atmosphere more unstable. In simple terms, this raises the chance of local showers and storms.

By midweek, unsettled weather is expected across much of Spain. Along the Mediterranean, rain will likely come in short bursts rather than long spells. Showers may appear quickly and clear just as fast.

Sea temperatures also play a role. With water close to 20 degrees, the sea adds energy to the air. This helps clouds build and increases the chance of afternoon storms, especially inland.

There may be a short break on Thursday. However, it does not look like it will last. From early Friday, a public holiday, the risk of showers and thunderstorms rises again, particularly in inland and mountainous areas.

Mixed weather along the coast

Along the coast, including Alicante, Torrevieja and Benidorm, conditions look more mixed. Expect a blend of sunshine and cloud, with the chance of light or occasional showers.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the outlook remains uncertain. Unsettled conditions are likely to continue, although coastal areas should fare slightly better than inland spots.

So, if you have plans for the Bank Holiday weekend (puente), it is not a complete washout. Still, it is worth keeping an eye on the sky and having a backup plan ready, just in case.
