The Costa Blanca continues to strengthen its position as one of Spain’s biggest tourism areas.

During 2025, three towns on the Costa Blanca were officially recognised as Municipios Turísticos, helping push the total across the Valencian Community to 82.

For residents, especially expats living along the coast and inland valleys, this recognition often brings real benefits. More funding. Better services. And a stronger focus on looking after both visitors and the people who live there year round.

What this status actually means

A Municipio Turístico is not just a title. It is a legal recognition for towns where tourism has a major impact on daily life.

To qualify, councils must prove they receive large numbers of visitors, have sufficient tourist accommodation, and offer the services needed to support them. Once approved, they can apply for extra funding from Turisme Comunitat Valenciana.

That funding helps pay for things many of us use every day. Cleaner public spaces. Events. Tourist information. Improved infrastructure.

New tourist towns in Alicante province

In 2025, three Alicante municipalities joined the list, all under the Singularidad category. This level highlights places with a strong identity and a unique appeal.

The newly recognised towns are:

  • Novelda
  • El Poble Nou de Benitatxell
  • Biar

Each offers something different, from wine and modernist heritage to mountain scenery and traditional inland life.

Costa Blanca still leads the way

While other provinces also saw upgrades, the Costa Blanca remains one of the strongest tourism areas in the region. Alicante continues to attract visitors throughout the year, not just in summer, thanks to its climate, beaches, festivals, food, and growing inland tourism.
