Alicante’s four municipal markets are getting ready for what they promise will be a very sweet Christmas, with the return of their traditional festive raffle.
The campaign is a way of thanking regular shoppers, with 25 cabassets up for grabs. These festive baskets are filled with local products from market traders.
Markets Councillor, Lidia López highlighted the role local markets play at this time of year, pointing out that everything needed for Christmas can be found. From turrón and grapes to wines and fresh local produce.
Raffle reward
She said the raffle provides a simple way to reward customers who shop in the markets during the festive season.
To take part, shoppers simply need to make a purchase at any of the participating stalls across the four municipal markets. There is no minimum spend. Customers will receive a raffle ticket, which they must complete and drop into the collection boxes.
The draw will take place on 23 December, and the organisers will contact the winners that morning so they can collect their Christmas baskets in time for the celebrations.
Alicante’s Christmas market activities
To enhance the Christmas atmosphere, the Council has organised a programme of festive activities across the four markets: Central, Babel, Benalúa, and Carolina. Santa Claus and his elves will visit on 20, 22, 23, and 24 December.
Later, on 3 and 5 January, royal postwomen will be on hand so children can deliver their letters and wishes. All visits will take place between 11:00 and 13:00, adding some extra festive cheer to the morning shopping trip.
Refurbished bathrooms
Shoppers at Central Market can now enjoy newly refurbished toilet facilities. In addition, the renovation features a new accessible toilet in the basement, specifically designed for people with reduced mobility. Furthermore, existing facilities have been upgraded with modern cisterns and doors. Finally, the project also includes a completely renewed drinking water system.
