Elche will host the XII charity race to raise funds for pancreatic cancer for the first time on Sunday 14 June.
The charity event will raise funds for medical research and awareness of one of Spain’s deadliest cancers.
Held under the slogan “Acercamos la meta” (“Bringing the finish line closer”), the race will begin in Plaza de Baix. From there, participants will pass through some of Elche’s best-known scenery, including the Palmeral and the riverbed area.
A race open to everyone
Importantly, organisers designed the event as an inclusive circuit suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
Entry costs €13 and participants can choose between three different categories:
- A 4.5 km competitive race with official timing and trophies for the top five male and female finishers
- A 4.5 km walking route suitable for families, pushchairs and pets
- A 4.5 km Nordic walking category for participants using walking poles
In addition, organisers have created a “Dorsal 0” option for anyone wishing to donate without taking part in the race itself.

Participants can collect race numbers and the purple commemorative campaign T-shirt at the Mediterranean Sports Capital headquarters in Plaza de Baix:

- Race day from 07:30 to 08:30
Why the campaign matters
Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most serious cancer diagnoses in Spain.
Doctors expect more than 10,000 people to receive a diagnosis during 2026. However, only around 10% survive beyond five years after diagnosis.
Doctors also warn that early symptoms, such as stomach discomfort, weight loss and loss of appetite, are often mistaken for minor health problems. Consequently, many cases are discovered too late for surgery.
Research funding and awareness
All money raised through registrations and donations will go directly towards the Carmen Delgado/Miguel Pérez-Mateo pancreatic cancer research grants.
The initiative was founded by Enrique de Madaria, gastroenterologist at Hospital General Universitario Dr Balmis.
According to De Madaria, the project has already raised more than €1 million across Spain.
He said the goal is to unite as many Spanish cities as possible to improve both funding and visibility for pancreatic cancer research.
As a result, Alicante province now becomes the only province in Spain hosting two races linked to the campaign. The Elche event takes place in June, while the established Alicante race returns later in November.
