Crime levels in Elda have dropped during the first nine months of the year, offering some reassuring news for residents and newcomers.
According to figures published by the Ministry of the Interior, conventional crime in the town fell by 6.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2024. The portal gathers data from state security forces across Spain, covering towns, provinces, and autonomous communities.
This reduction places Elda in a stronger position than the Valencian Community overall, where conventional crime fell by just 1.1 per cent. It also contrasts sharply with the province of Alicante, which recorded a rise in crime of 5 per cent during the same period.
Crime rate in Elda: Clear improvements
The data show clear improvements across several categories. Theft fell by 13.9 per cent, burglaries dropped by 13.8 per cent, and robberies involving violence or intimidation decreased by 12.9 per cent. There was also a fall of 4.5 per cent in serious and less serious offences related to bodily harm and public disorder. Sexual offences showed one of the largest declines, down by 16.7 per cent.
Not all trends moved in the same direction. Crimes linked to the internet continued to rise, with cybercrime increasing by 20.7 per cent. Even so, when conventional crime and cybercrime are combined, the total number of criminal offences in Elda still fell slightly, by 0.6 per cent.
Wider figures
This overall result compares favourably with wider figures. Across the Valencian Community, total crime rose by 2.3 per cent, while the province of Alicante saw an increase of 6.5 per cent. Alongside Alcoy and Benidorm, Elda is one of the few major towns in the province where both conventional crime and overall crime figures have gone down.
Silvia Ibáñez, Elda’s Councillor for Public Safety, welcomed the results. She said the figures show that, Elda remains a safe city and safer than other towns in Alicante of a similar size. She added that the Council, working closely with the National Police, will continue to prioritise public safety and will not become complacent.
