Some pasta wrapped round a fork to celebrate World Pasta Day.

It’s World Pasta Day today, 25 October! Join me in the al dente debate, how do you like yours?

I like my pasta soft. Not al dente, not “with a little bite,” just properly cooked.

Over 70% of Spaniards swear by it, firm, chewy, “authentic.” The rest of us prefer to chew pasta with minimal effort. Millennials, apparently, are most likely to side with Team Soft.

However you like it, there’s no shortage of great pasta in Spain.

World Pasta Day: Second most ordered cuisine

It turns out that I am not alone in my carb devotion. According to Just Eat’s Gastrómetro, pasta is Spain’s second most ordered cuisine, just behind burgers.

A survey by IPSOS found that over 35% of Spaniards call pasta their favourite food. It’s the ultimate crowd-pleaser, quick dinner, hangover cure, romantic date, midnight snack.

Delivery has only made the love affair stronger. Around 13% of Spaniards now order pasta straight to their door, while nearly 20% get the ingredients delivered so they can play chef at home.

So this World Pasta Day, whether you twirl it firm or fork it soft, just enjoy it, sauce dripping, cheese melting, heart happy. Pasta doesn’t judge, and neither should we.
