Elche is preparing to launch a new digital tourist card designed to help visitors explore the city and enjoy its main attractions.
The initiative, known as the VisitElche Card, will also introduce a new smart tourist signage system across the historic centre.
According to tourism councillor Irene Ruiz, the project builds on earlier improvements introduced through the same programme. These include the renovation of the Museo de La Festa and the creation of the Senderelx.
Digital card for easier access to attractions
Visitors will be able to download the VisitElche Card directly to their mobile phones.
The city will offer three versions of the card:
- 24 hours
- 48 hours
- 72 hours
Each option will provide access to a range of tourist services and attractions.
These include entry to municipal museums, rides on the tourist train, passes for the city’s public transport network and guided tours around the historic centre.
The most complete option will also include access to the BiciElx.
Data will help improve tourism planning
Ruiz said the digital system will also help the city understand how visitors move around and use local attractions.
Tourism officials will analyse the data to see how long visitors stay in Elche, which places they visit and what types of transport they use.
The council will use this information to plan future tourism campaigns and improve visitor services.
Similar tourist cards already operate in destinations such as Valencia, Gijón and Guipúzcoa.
Smart signage across the historic centre
Alongside the digital card, Elche will also install a smart tourist signage system across the historic centre.
The city will place new information panels at more than 20 heritage sites, including:
- Basílica de Santa María
- Palacio de Altamira
- Torre de la Calahorra
- Parque Municipal de Elche
QR codes and accessible information
Each sign will include a QR code that links to additional information on visitors’ phones.
Content will be available in Spanish, Valencian, English and French. The system will also suggest cultural and tourist routes around the city.
The project will also use NaviLens technology. This system helps people with visual impairments and other disabilities access information more easily.
Launch expected in 2026
City officials expect to launch both the VisitElche Card and the new signage system during the second half of 2026.
