After weeks of unsettled weather, parts of the Costa Blanca, especially the Vega Baja, have seen a noticeable increase in rainfall.
Recent figures from AVAMET show that while rain has not fallen evenly across the region, many towns have built up significant totals both this month and so far this year.
Rain on the Vega Baja
The standout location is Pinar de Campoverde (Pilar de la Horadada), which has recorded the highest levels so far. It has seen 102.2 litres per square metre this month and 164.8 l/m² since the start of the year, making it one of the wettest areas in the Vega Baja.
Other towns have also recorded strong figures.
In Rojales, Ciudad Quesada, rainfall has reached 81.5 l/m² this month and 119.6 l/m² for the year. Nearby Torre de la Horadada has seen 69.0 l/m² this month and 127.2 l/m² annually.
Inland areas are also seeing steady accumulation. Almoradí – Los Gomares has recorded 70.6 l/m² this month, while Redován – San Carlos stands at 70.2 l/m², both with annual totals just over 112 l/m².
Orihuela and surrounding areas
Across Orihuela and its surrounding districts, rainfall has varied but remains consistent.
The town centre has reached 67.5 l/m² this month and 113.7 l/m² this year. Nearby areas such as Lo Capitán / Los Canónigos and GIRS La Matanza are showing similar levels, while La Murada has seen lower figures at 44.2 l/m² this month.
Other areas across the Vega Baja
Elsewhere in the region, Guardamar del Segura has recorded 63.6 l/m² this month and 103.4 l/m² for the year.
Bigastro, Lo Chusco is close behind with 62.7 l/m², while Albatera has seen more modest rainfall at 41.5 l/m² this month.
Back in Pilar de la Horadada town centre, totals stand at 56.4 l/m² for the month and 110.2 l/m² so far this year.
A mixed but positive picture
Overall, the data shows a patchy pattern, with some areas seeing heavier downpours than others. However, the accumulated totals suggest the recent rain has been significant across much of the Vega Baja.
With more unsettled weather possible in the coming weeks, it remains to be seen whether this wetter spell will continue or give way to more typical spring sunshine on the Costa Blanca.
