Get those tastebuds ready. One of the Marina Alta’s most traditional food events is back. El Poble Nou de Benitatxell prepares to celebrate the return of the Jornadas Gastronómicas de la Fava.

Taking place from 16 to 18 April 2026, the event forms part of the popular Mitjafava Fest. It shines a spotlight on one of the town’s most cherished local ingredients, the fava poblera (broad bean).

A traditional dish takes centre stage

The star of the event is arròs amb fava pelà, a traditional rice dish known for its rich, creamy texture. Made using dried and peeled broad beans, the dish develops its signature consistency from the natural starch of the legumes.

This recipe is deeply rooted in local tradition and can only be found in a handful of places in the Marina Alta, including Xàbia, Jesús Pobre and El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.

Historically, farmers prepared this hearty dish at midday and saved a portion for later, after long hours working in the fields.

Three days to savour local flavours

This year, three well known local restaurants will offer special menus featuring arròs amb fava pelà as the main dish. Due to high demand, advance booking is recommended.

Here’s where and when to enjoy the experience:

  • Thursday 16 April – Restaurante La Cumbre (Reservations: 966 49 32 13)
  • Friday 17 April – Ca Toni Mònica (Reservations: 966 49 36 36)
  • Saturday 18 April – Trillaora Bar (Reservations: 647 60 67 84)
