Alicante is set to turn into a showcase of tradition and flavour this Saturday 18 April, as it welcomes its “sister city” Albacete for a full day of folklore, music and mouthwatering gastronomy.
The event, organised under a cultural and tourism partnership between both cities, promises a mix of performances, a colourful street parade and, of course, plenty of delicious regional dishes to try.
A morning of music and tradition
The streets will come alive with a pasacalles (street parade) featuring seven folklore groups and the Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Albacete.
The procession will wind its way through the city centre before reaching the iconic Explanada, where performances will take place from 11:45am to 2:00pm.
Then comes the food…
After the music, the focus shifts to flavour. From 14:30, the action moves to the Town Hall square, where visitors can dive into a gastronomic showcase of La Mancha.
Expect to sample traditional favourites such as:
- Gazpachos Manchegos – a hearty, rustic meat stew
- Moje – a refreshing tomato-based salad
- Miguelitos – delicate, cream-filled pastries that are dangerously moreish
There will also be a knife-making workshop, a nod to Albacete’s long-standing craftsmanship tradition.
More than just a celebration
Beyond the music and food, the event highlights the strong ties between Alicante and Albacete.
Tourism councillor Ana Poquet noted that Albacete is a key source of visitors, with around 63,000 tourists travelling to Alicante from the province in 2025 alone.
