Orihuela’s World Breast Cancer Day walk will turn the town pink in October.

In its ninth year the event has become a firm favourite on the town’s calendar. This year, the walk is expected to draw more participants than ever. It kicks off at 10:00 on Sunday, 19 October, starting from the Glorieta on Avenida de España.

Irene Celdrán, the Councillor for Health, stressed the vital role of prevention and early detection in fighting breast cancer. She reminded everyone that “attending regular check-ups and looking after yourself is not selfish. It is an act of love and responsibility towards yourself and your loved ones.”

Orihuela’s World Breast Cancer Day walk: Standing tall

The AECC encouraged residents to “stand tall” on 19 October and help transform Orihuela into a wave of pink, showing solidarity with patients and families affected by the disease.

Organiser Paco Belmonte outlined the practical details for the 5K race and walk, noting a small route adjustment due to construction on Paseo Calvo Sotelo.

Registration is available online at www.tragamillas.org for a fee of €10, covering both the race and the walk. Participants can also register in person at the AECC office in Ociopía Shopping Center, Paula Ópticos, and Urbanfitness.

Winners in six different race categories will receive trophies, and young runners aged 14 and over are welcome with parental consent.

Creative twist: Think pink

In a creative twist, the Orihuela School of Art and Design (EASDO) will present an artistic performance at Glorieta Gabriel Miró, organised by their Fashion Design department. The show aims to raise awareness and give recognition to those who have battled or are battling breast cancer.

Orihuela is ready to lace up, walk, run, and celebrate resilience, all in the spirit of hope, community, and a touch of pink.
