Orihuela is turning March into a month-long invitation to rediscover its streets, stories and landscapes. The town has launched its “Routes and Visits – March 2026” cultural programme.

The initiative brings together heritage walks, literary tributes, coastal excursions and artistic neighbourhood tours, all designed to showcase the many layers of the municipality, from its historic centre to its Mediterranean shoreline.

All activities have limited places and require advance booking through orihuelaturistica.es.

Kicking off Orihuela’s routes and visits

The programme begins on 5 March with a guided visit to the Miguel Hernández House Museum. Visitors step inside the childhood home of Orihuela’s most renowned poet and learn about the modest surroundings that shaped his life and work.

The following afternoon, on 6 March, attention remains on Hernández with the themed route “Miguel Hernández: Life and Work”. The tour offers a broader perspective on his literary legacy and his deep connection to the city.

Orihuela’s architectural heritage takes centre stage on 7 March with the “Cultural Legacy” route, departing from the Arco de Santo Domingo. The walk passes through some of the city’s most emblematic sites and shows how centuries of history have shaped its urban landscape.

Mid-month: History and flavour

Mid-March brings a programme that blends history and flavour. On 13 March, visitors can take part in “The Expansion of Orihuela and its Historical Context + Tasting”. This guided route explores the growth of Orihuela. It concludes with a small gastronomic experience.

The following day, 14 March, the focus shifts to the coast. Participants can join the Blue Trail and Cabo Roig Military Detachment route. The walk combines natural scenery with the area’s defensive past. It is set in one of Orihuela’s most prettiest seaside locations.

Art and tradition take centre stage later in the month. On 19 March, the San Isidro Murals Tour highlights the neighbourhood’s striking street art. Its colourful walls reflect both community identity and social history.

Two days later, on 21 March, the Orihuela Patron Saints Route turns to the city’s religious heritage. The itinerary links churches, traditions and local devotions. Together, they remain central to Orihuela’s cultural life.

Holy Week in Orihuela

Holy Week history is the focus on 27 March with the Relics of the Passion Route, a journey through sacred art and symbols tied to one of Orihuela’s most important religious celebrations.

The literary thread returns on 28 March with “Miguel Hernández: Anniversary of his Death”, a commemorative route reflecting on the poet’s enduring influence.

To close the month, the popular “Cultural Legacy” route will be repeated on 30 and 31 March, once again departing from the Arco de Santo Domingo for those who missed earlier dates.
