If you fancy a little wander through history, head over to Torre del Moro in Torrevieja.

More than seven centuries of history watching over the coast, the prominent Torre del Moro tourist viewpoint, located on the Torrevieja-La Mata coastal road, sits on top of Cape Cervera.

Surrounded by a large, 23,000-square-metre green park, thanks to its wide view and height, it is possible to enjoy amazing all-encompassing views of the cliff-lined coasts and beaches.

To the north, you can see kilometres of beach that connect La Mata with Guardamar del Segura, as well as the distant Cape of Santa Pola and Tabarca Island. Looking south, past Punta Prima, you can see Grosa Island off the Mar Menor. To the east, the view disappears into the depths of the horizon.

The Torre del Moro viewpoint is not only a perfect spot for photography, but is also a popular place for relaxing and walking.

It is even the place chosen by both tourists and Torrevieja residents for weddings and events.

At the beginning of the 14th century, the “Torre del Cabo Cervera” was built, representing one of the primitive watchtowers, to guard the coast of La Mata and Torrevieja. In 1378, it was attacked by Muslim galleys and destroyed.

In the 16th century, military engineer Juan Bautista Antonelli was tasked with rebuilding the structure, which became known as “La Torre del Moro.”

Centuries later, this masonry work underwent renovation in 1960. It was declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1985 and subsequently renovated again in 1994.
