In recent years, birdwatching has grown rapidly across Spain, especially in protected natural areas where it combines sustainable tourism, environmental awareness and time outdoors.
One of the leading sites in the Valencian Community is Montgó Natural Park, located between Dénia and Xàbia.
Rising 753 metres above sea level, Montgó is a coastal mountain massif with remarkable biodiversity. Its mix of steep cliffs, Mediterranean woodland, scrubland, rocky slopes and former agricultural terraces creates a range of habitats within a small area.
This diversity supports abundant wildlife, particularly birds, throughout the year.

Birdwatching in Montgó offers both easy access and rich rewards.
A network of marked trails, including Cova de l’Aigua and Camí de la Colònia, enables visitors to explore while enjoying excellent viewpoints for observing wildlife.
The park’s most emblematic species include birds of prey such as the peregrine falcon, the short toed eagle and the common kestrel, which often circle above the cliffs and open slopes.
Smaller species, including the great tit and the Sardinian warbler, move through shrubs and trees, adding constant movement and birdsong. During migration periods, many more species pass through, as Montgó lies along an important coastal migration route.
Birdlife forms only part of Montgó’s ecosystem. The park also supports badgers, wild boar, foxes and the elusive common genet. These mammals usually appear at dusk and move quietly through the undergrowth.
