Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport shows no signs of slowing down.

The Costa Blanca gateway has kicked off 2026 exactly where it left off last year: breaking records and pushing past previous milestones with ease.

After closing 2025 with an all-time high of 19.9 million passengers, January has delivered yet another landmark month. The airport handled 1,106,689 passengers, a 4.7% increase compared with January 2025 and the busiest January in its history.

That performance places Alicante as the sixth busiest airport in Spain for the month, behind Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Gran Canaria and Tenerife South. It was also the second-fastest growing among the top six in percentage terms, surpassed only by Málaga, which posted 5.1% growth.

Alicante-Elche Airport: International traffic

International traffic continues to power the airport’s expansion. In January, 950,021 international passengers passed through the terminal, marking a 6.6% rise year on year and confirming Alicante’s status as one of Spain’s most internationally focused airports.

The United Kingdom once again dominated the international rankings, accounting for 288,107 passengers. It was followed by:

  • The Netherlands: 82,474
  • Poland: 79,892
  • Belgium: 76,174
  • Germany: 65,543

Alicante-Elche Airport: Domestic traffic

Domestic traffic, however, continued to soften. A total of 155,593 passengers travelled on domestic routes, representing a 6.1% decrease compared with the same month in 2025. The decline reflects the stabilisation of internal travel demand following the strong post-pandemic rebound of previous years.

Flight operations also reached historic levels. A total of 7,521 aircraft movements were recorded during January, up 5.6% compared with the same period last year.
