Spanish traveller preferences & rural getaways

When it comes to amenities, air conditioning is in highest demand as 86.3% of rentals with A/C are booked. Properties with a swimming pool are nearly as popular, at 84.6% occupancy.

Not heading to the coast? You are not alone, 88.4% of rural holiday homes across Spain are already booked for August, showing the continued popularity of inland tourism.

Occupancy on the rise in some areas

While the national average dipped slightly, ten coastal areas actually saw increases. The Tenerife coast saw the biggest jump, up from 69% last year to 75.2%. Other notable rises include:

  • Alicante – from 85.4% to 90.2%
  • Gran Canaria – from 71.9% to 75.9%

In contrast, Huelva saw the biggest drop (from 60.7% to 45.6%), followed by Barcelona Province (down from 86.7% to 76%) and Valencia Province (from 75.3% to 68.1%).

Almudena Ucha, Director of Rentalia, commented: “Booking figures reflect both the strength and importance of the holiday rental sector, especially as more tourists, both local and international, flock to Spain’s coastlines every year. These accommodations remain a top choice for families and groups due to the privacy, space, and flexibility they offer. Restricting this market, as some governments are considering, could shrink supply and push prices up, ultimately affecting family holidays.”
