The city’s popular L’Illa-Port de Benidorm open water race returns on Sunday 30 August, giving experienced swimmers the opportunity to tackle one of the Costa Blanca’s best-known sea races.
If you’ve ever fancied swimming from Benidorm Island back to the mainland, now’s your chance.

Places are limited to 300 swimmers and organisers will allocate them on a first come, first served basis.
The event is open to anyone aged 18 or over on the day of the race. During registration, competitors must also indicate whether they are local swimmers or visitors.
Race day timetable
Competitors can collect their race numbers at Benidorm Port between 07:00 and 07:30 on the morning of the event.
Boats leave the harbour at 07:45 to transport swimmers to Benidorm Island.
The race starts at 08:15 from the island’s jetty. Swimmers then tackle a course of two nautical miles (3.6 kilometres) back to the port.
Safety is the priority
Every competitor must wear a safety tow float throughout the race.
Organisers have made the floats compulsory. Anyone arriving without one may not be allowed to take part.
Swimmers have a maximum of two hours to complete the course. Safety boats will collect anyone still in the water once the time limit expires.
The annual event has become one of the highlights of Benidorm’s sporting calendar and attracts open water swimmers from across the Costa Blanca and beyond.
