If you are into photography and fascinated by the history of water, it’s well worth taking a trip to Torrevieja.

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has officially opened a travelling photography exhibition at the viewpoint where the old Tintero once stood (Playa del Cura). Titled “Taibilla Canals Association: 100 Years Supplying Water and Progress”, the exhibition celebrates the organisation’s history in the run-up to its centenary.

Running until 29th July, the exhibition features twelve panels showcasing key moments from the association’s founding on 4th October 1927 to the present day. It highlights the development of major hydraulic infrastructure and the arrival of water to various municipalities.

The final two panels are dedicated specifically to Torrevieja’s connection with the Taibilla Canals Association. Among the exhibits is a document dated 31st July 1946, in which the then-mayor of Torrevieja formally requested the town’s inclusion in the Mechanical Water Commission (MCT). You will also find fascinating photographs of the construction and current state of the infrastructure that continues to supply water to the area.
