A unique Playmobil exhibition celebrating some of history’s most influential women has arrived in Orihuela.
The exhibition, titled Famous Women, is currently running at La Lonja and will welcome visitors until 3 July.
History recreated through Playmobil
Using more than 1,000 Playmobil figures and two large-scale displays, the exhibition tells the stories of ten women whose achievements helped transform society and create new opportunities for future generations.
The displays focus on women who succeeded in fields that men traditionally dominated.
Ten remarkable women
The exhibition introduces visitors to women from a wide range of professions and backgrounds.
Among them are Maria Montessori, Spanish voting rights campaigner Clara Campoamor, writer Virginia Woolf and aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart.
Visitors can also discover the stories of Stefi Geyer, Lilian Suzette Gibbs, Tamara de Lempicka, Coco Chanel, Camille Claudel and Ethel Smyth.
Together, their stories showcase achievements in education, politics, science, literature, music, art and women’s rights.
Learning through creativity
Mayor Pepe Vegara highlighted the role of education in driving social change and praised the exhibition’s creative approach to engaging younger audiences.
He said the exhibition combines history, learning and creativity while encouraging visitors to reflect on equality and equal opportunities.
According to the mayor, the displays offer an accessible way for adults and children alike to discover the stories of women whose contributions history has not always recognised.
