If you’re already thinking ahead to next year’s holidays, Alicante has confirmed the city’s two local public holidays for 2027.

There are no surprises. The city’s most important traditional celebrations, the Santa Faz pilgrimage and the Feast of San Juan, will once again be observed as local holidays, completing Alicante’s official calendar of 14 public holidays for the year.

The dates were approved by the City Council at its latest plenary meeting, although the decision reignited calls for San Juan to receive regional holiday status across the Valencian Community.

The two local holidays

The confirmed local holidays are:

  • Thursday 8 April: Santa Faz Pilgrimage.
  • Thursday 24 June: Feast of San Juan.

Both dates remain central to Alicante’s cultural calendar and attract thousands of participants each year.

Good news… and bad news

The 2027 calendar offers a mixed picture for workers.

Three public holidays fall on a Saturday, meaning many people working Monday to Friday won’t benefit from an extra day off. Those dates are Labour Day on 1 May, Valencian Community Day on 9 October and Constitution Day on 6 December.

The good news is that several holidays create long weekends. New Year’s Day, San José, All Saints’ Day and the Immaculate Conception all fall on either a Friday or a Monday, making them ideal for a short break.

Easter also provides a four-day weekend, with Good Friday on 26 March followed by Easter Monday on 29 March.

School holidays will be different

Families should also note that Alicante’s school calendar will differ from much of the rest of the Valencian Community.

Schools in Alicante will close on Monday 22, Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 March, before Holy Week begins. In exchange, pupils will return to class on Thursday 1, Friday 2 and Monday 5 April, days that would normally form part of the Easter holiday elsewhere.

The change means children will have five school days between Easter and the Santa Faz holiday, instead of returning for just a few days before another break.

Elche will follow the same timetable, bringing both cities into line with regions such as Madrid and Murcia rather than the rest of the Valencian Community.
