A flat tyre or loose brake halfway through a bike ride in Benidorm no longer necessarily means hunting down the nearest repair shop.
The city has installed six bicycle repair stations where cyclists can tackle basic jobs themselves, from pumping up tyres to adjusting brakes and fixing a puncture.
The stations are free to use and have appeared as part of Benidorm’s programme for European Mobility Week.
Where are the new bike repair stations?
The six stations are spread across Benidorm, including locations close to cycle routes and other transport connections.
You will find them at the Beniardá park-and-ride beside the TRAM station, Avenida Villajoyosa, Parque de Elche, Salt de l’Aigua, Avenida Ametlla de Mar at its junction with Avenida del Mediterráneo, and Parque de la Sèquia Mare at the corner with Calle Comunidad Europea.
Cyclists do not need to bring their own tools.
Each station includes screwdrivers, Allen keys, spanners, an adjustable wrench and tyre levers. There is also a pump capable of reaching 10 bar, with an adaptor for different types of valves.
A guide provides information about tyre pressures, while padded support bars allow cyclists to hang their bike up while carrying out adjustments.
What can you repair?
The idea is not to replace a bike workshop, but to provide what you need for straightforward repairs when you are out and about.
Cyclists can inflate or change a tyre, tighten bolts, adjust brakes or deal with a puncture.
Using the stations is completely free. However, you will need to leave a small deposit to access the tools. You get the deposit back when you finish using them.
The new equipment is aimed at both people who cycle around Benidorm every day and visitors exploring the area by bike.
