From a design studio in Petrer to shop shelves in more than 60 countries, Costa Blanca fashion brand Anekke is proving that local businesses can compete on the world stage.

Known for its distinctive handbags and accessories, the Alicante company is preparing for its next chapter after appointing experienced retail executive Brigitte Boehm as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Her arrival marks the start of an ambitious international expansion that will focus on the United States and Asia, while continuing to strengthen the brand’s position across Europe.

Built in Petrer, loved worldwide

Founded by siblings Mercè, Puri and José Ramón Brotons, Anekke has grown steadily since launching in 2015.

The company designs all of its collections from its headquarters in Petrer, drawing inspiration from the fictional character Anekke, whose travels and stories shape each season’s range.

Every collection tells a different story, giving the brand a unique identity in a competitive market.

Today, around 65% of Anekke’s sales come from outside Spain.

Record sales fuel expansion

The company enters this new phase from a position of strength.

Anekke’s operating company, Sany Bags, recorded sales of more than €37 million in 2024, an increase of over 13% compared with the previous year.

Profits also climbed strongly, reaching €7.68 million after tax.

The business now employs around 130 people at its Petrer headquarters, where the design, marketing and management teams are based. Manufacturing continues mainly in China.

New markets on the horizon

Europe remains Anekke’s biggest international market, with particularly strong sales in Italy and France.

The company’s next challenge is to grow its presence in the United States and across Asia. It plans to do this through commercial agents, online marketplaces and partnerships with major department stores.

The founding family will remain involved through the board of directors while stepping back from the day-to-day running of the business.

Anekke has also strengthened its creative team with the appointment of a new Design Director to help maintain the distinctive style that has become the brand’s trademark.

Looking ahead

The company currently operates two of its own pilot stores in Murcia and Zaragoza. These allow Anekke to test new retail concepts before expanding further.

If those trials continue to prove successful, the company hopes to begin opening more stores and franchises from 2028.

Alongside its own shops, Anekke already sells through 16 El Corte Inglés stores and continues to grow its presence in Mexico through retailer Liverpool.

For a business that started on the Costa Blanca, the next destination is clear. With strong financial results, an experienced leadership team and growing international demand, Anekke is preparing to take another confident step onto the global stage.
