Artists in Petrer can now apply to take part in the latest Art al Balcó, a colourful open-air project that transforms balconies in the historic centre into a large outdoor gallery.

This year marks an important milestone. It is the 13th edition nationally and the eighth held in Petrer. For the first time, organisers will also award cash prizes for the best artworks.

Art al Balcó: Cash prizes

Organisers will present two awards this year.

  • A national prize of €1,000 for the best artwork across all participating towns
  • A local prize of €500 for the best piece created by artists within the Art al balcó route

A judging panel will include representatives from each participating municipality. Each town will appoint one member from the local council and another linked to the cultural sector.

Art returns to the balconies

The exhibition will take place in mid-September, during Heritage Open Days and Petrer’s patron saint festivities.

During this period, artists’ canvases will hang from balconies across the old town.

The display will create a fabulous open-air exhibition for residents and visitors.

The town hall has encouraged local artists to take part, whether they are returning or joining for the first time.

How to take part in Art al Balcó

Artists can register until 28 March through the Museo Dámaso Navarro, either:

  • In person at the museum between 11:00 and 14:00
  • By email at museo@petrer.es
  • By telephone on 966 98 94 00 (extension 280)

The project is open to anyone aged 16 or over, regardless of experience. Younger participants can also join through cultural associations or community groups.

Petrer Town Hall will provide large-format canvases free of charge. Artists can work in any style, including realism, cubism, pop art or impressionism.

However, organisers do not allow collage techniques, as they need the artworks to withstand outdoor conditions.
