Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport saw several departures delayed on 20 September after a cyberattack hit boarding systems at airports across Europe.

The worst problems were reported in Brussels, London Heathrow and Berlin, but Alicante also had to adjust flights to those cities.

The Tui Fly service to Brussels, planned for 09:20, did not leave until 13:30, more than four hours late. The delay was caused by serious overcrowding at Brussels Airport, where its baggage system was shut down by the attack.

The Wizz Air flight to Bucharest, scheduled for 10:00, finally departed just after midday, running over two hours behind.

While passengers in Heathrow, Berlin and Brussels are still facing long queues and cancellations, the situation in Alicante is less severe and remains under control. Even so, Aena has warned that further delays could happen later in the day, depending on how other airports recover.

At Valencia’s Manises Airport, the impact has been minor. Only two flights to the UK were slightly delayed, both by around 25–30 minutes. These were heading to London Stansted and East Midlands, two of the airports directly affected by the disruption.

Authorities say the cyberattack targeted a North American company that provides digital boarding systems, forcing airports in several European capitals to reschedule flights.
