Should you find yourself in Villena with a thirst for a tipple, make a beeline for Bodegas Virtudes.
Their tour lets you get up close with the winery’s story: see, smell, and taste a bit of its heritage. You will learn how they make wine, step by step, and get introduced to their crown jewel, El Fondillón.
This isn’t just any wine, it’s a rare treat, made by only ten wineries worldwide, fit for royalty. Bodegas Virtudes is also part of the Alicante Wine Route, which is one of Spain’s top wine trails.
The visit includes a guided walk around the winery, followed by a tasting of three wines and two types of olive oil. You will also get to enjoy wood-fired bread with some local cold meats from Villena. The highlight is a sample of Fondillón, paired with traditional pastries. If you fancy a stroll among the vines, you can add a visit to the vineyard during harvest season for a small extra fee.
