Food lovers are in for a treat. Villena launches its 2026 Asparagus Campaign.
Enjoy a celebration of one of the town’s most prized local products. Running from 18 April to 30 May, the initiative brings tastings, cooking workshops and special events to the Mercado Municipal.
Free tapas every Saturday
One of the highlights of the campaign is the chance to taste the product for free.
Every Saturday until 30 May, visitors who purchase a drink in the Mercado Municipal leisure area will receive a complimentary asparagus tapa.
In addition, shoppers who buy Espárrago de Villena from market stalls will be entered into a draw to win a basket of local asparagus.
Cooking workshops for all ages
A series of cooking workshops will also take place in the market’s kitchen classroom, giving participants the chance to learn new ways to prepare the local delicacy.
The programme includes:
- 18 April (10:30) – Adult cooking workshop
- 9 May (10:30) – Youth workshop (ages 11–17)
- 16 May (10:30) – Family workshop for children up to 6
- 22 May (18:30) – Children’s cooking workshop (ages 6–10)
- 30 May (10:30) – Fun “asparagus rocket launch” workshop
Villena promoting local produce
Organised by Villena Town Hall, the campaign aims to promote local produce, healthy eating and sustainable consumption, while continuing to strengthen the growing reputation of the Espárrago de Villena.
Councillor for Commerce and Economic Development, Paula García, highlighted the success of previous editions, noting that both shoppers and traders actively look for the Espárrago de Villena label, which has become a recognised mark of quality.
