It may have cost in excess of one million euros, but finally, the extremely popular Line 9 of the TRAM, which connects Benidorm and Dénia will be restored to full operational use once more.

The official date that has been given is Friday, August 1, and anyone who has been relying on the bus to get between Benissa and Teulada will no doubt be very relieved. For those that are interested in knowing what the problem was, reports have stated that a viaduct was found to have serious structural defects, which were considered a major safety concern.

Mayor of Teulada confirms repairs

Confirmation of the repairs was provided by the Minister of the Environment, Infrastructure, and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus.   This came following an inspection of the restored viaduct, to which he was accompanied by the Mayor of Teulada.

The usual Line 9 route between Benissa and Teulada has been out of action since July 4, with passengers having to resort to a bus service to get to their destination.  Thankfully for road users, the repairs were carried out without any disruption to the traffic on the CV-740 road, maintaining both entrance and exit lanes for vehicles throughout.

Line 9 TRAM fastest-growing

Statistics for the first six months of the year, show that more than 600,000 passengers have used the Line 9 trains.  This is in part thanks to a modernisation project which took place at the end of January, leading to new viaducts at l’Algar and Mascarat.  This makes it the fastest-growing Alicante TRAM line, with an average increase of more than 10% compared to 2024.

With the viaduct fully repaired, Line 9 will once more connect Benidorm, Alfas del Pi, Altea, Calpe, Benissa, Teulada, Gata de Gorgos, and Dénia.

Good news for all those who rely on the service to go about out their daily lives.
